DETAILS ON OUR VERMICULITE WITHDRAWAL SERVICE

VERMICULITE

Vermiculite is an insulating product that is often found in homes built before the 1990s. The main feature of vermiculite is that it contains asbestos. In the majority of cases, this is what compels its manipulation. Thus, vermiculite should be handled with the same care. By respecting the procedures and protocols established by the Commission on Health and Safety at Work (CNESST) and the Régie du Bâtiment du Québec (RBQ).

WHY WAS IT USED?

Vermiculite was formerly used as an insulator. When heated, it expands and has several interesting characteristics. Here are a few.

Insulator: this mineral has the ability to trap air.

Fire resistance: this mineral retards the effects of heat and fire.

Moisture Retention: This mineral absorbs moisture and can act as a vapor barrier in attics and in the walls of a home.

WHY REMOVE IT?

In the early 90s, the installation of vermiculite was banned. In most cases it contains asbestos. So, no matter where the insulation is located, it is important that it is removed. This is to reduce the risk of contamination of the living air.

On the other hand, a home for sale can lose up to 10% of its value when insulated with this mineral. Sellers may encounter difficulties when selling their property.

HOW DO I KNOW IF VERMICULITIS CONTAINS ASBESTOS?

Our company provides vermiculite sampling and analysis services. Even if asbestos is found there, the rest of your home is not necessarily. In this case, you have the option of performing an air test which will confirm that the ambient air is habitable. For more information, visit the sampling section.

HOW DO WE PROCEED FOR DECONTAMINATION?

Démo-Construct removes vermiculite quickly and efficiently. Our source vacuum system allows material to be transferred directly into the container. This is what prevents the handling of contaminated bags in the house. In addition, always to prevent contamination of the house during the execution of the work, we are committed to mobilizing the work area to contain the dust inside it.

As soon as the work is completed, a report containing the results of an air quality analysis is given to the customer. This is to ensure the conformity of the work. Note that to avoid a conflict of interest, the final air test is performed by an external firm. It has the mandate to act as an intermediary between the decontamination company and the customer.

WHO TAKES CARE OF THE REINSOLATION?

Following the removal of vermiculite in an attic, for example, we offer you the possibility of reinsulating it with blown wool. We will be happy to include this procedure in your submission if you wish to mandate us to carry out this work. You just have to mention it when you get in touch with one of our experts.
